The setting up of the Pistoia Centre
for the collection of the papers on migration Mario Olla,
was made possible by the will of the Regional Council for
migration and by the support of the Comunità Montana
Appennino Pistoiese, which was led by President Riccardo
Rastelli. The President Riccardo Rastelli involved all
the town councils of the mountain in this plan. The inauguration
of the centre took place on the 6th of September 1998 in the
presence of the President of Tuscany Department, of local
and provincial authorities and of the representatives of Tuscany
associations abroad. It has the task of collecting, reconstructing
and of spreading the history of Pistoia migration. In our
country historical, economic and social testimony of the migrants
from Pistoia , looking outside for better life conditions,
is very precious and is an heritage, which must be preserved
and transferred to the rising generations . Since the Centre
was set up, it has had the task of collecting papers. Publications,
photos, letters, documents and statements have been part of
a main file. Even through these collected papers we want to
support the research, studies, shows, publications and didactic
activieties on the migration from Pistoia. The Centre attaches
a great importance to the collaboration with local bodies,
schools, universities, citizens' associations in Italy and
abroad, and to the collaboration with everyone, who has the
intention to learn the migration phenomenon. The Scientific
Technical Committee, composed by local personalities, experts
and scholars of the matter, must coordinate the Centre activities.
At present time its members are the following: the director
Andrea Ottanelli , Gabriella Aschieri, Deanna Buonomimi, Florio
Franceschi, Maurizio Vivarelli, Carlo Vivoli and Francesca
Vogesi.
